What is a saddle lathe machine? (gap lathe machine)

Generally, the center height of a lathe is fixed. For example, the center height of a lathe is 300mm. When we want to process two end faces of a workpiece with a diameter of 800mm and a length of 150mm, because the workpiece diameter exceeds the center height, it is impossible to install cards, let alone process. Therefore, the guide rail of the large knife rack near the chuck head has to be cut off with a length of more than 150mm, so that the workpiece can be clamped and processed. When large diameter workpieces are not processed, the cut guide rail can be installed. This part is called saddle. The saddle needs to be customized in advance. The factory shall be informed in advance when purchasing lathes.

The upper half of the machine tool bed guide rail near the headstock can be removed. This guide rail is called saddle. When we remove the saddle, we can increase the turning diameter of the lathe, and expand the processing range of the lathe through the rotation and processing of metal parts with larger diameter. The width of saddle is the range of machining height. The shape of this lathe is high at both ends, low in the middle and saddle, so it is called saddle lathe machine.

Saddle lathe can increase the rotation radius. After removing the saddle on the track, it can process large-diameter workpieces, which is generally 1.5 times of the same size as the same model. For example, LT6240 lathe can only process 400mm diameter workpieces without removing the saddle. After removing the saddle, it can be processed into 600mm diameter workpieces. An ordinary lathe cannot increase the radius of rotation.

Saddle lathe is suitable for machining parts with large radial size and small axial size. It is suitable for turning the outer circle, inner hole, end face, grooving and metric, imperial, modulus and warp thread of workpieces. It can also carry out drilling, boring, reaming and other processes, especially for single piece and batch production enterprises.

The guide rail of saddle lathe is hardened and finely ground, which is convenient and reliable to operate. It has the characteristics of high power, high speed, strong rigidity, high precision and low noise. The saddle is easy to disassemble and has high repeated positioning accuracy. It is the preferred lathe for customers to purchase.
By the way, not all lathes can customize saddles, such as lt6266 lathe. When the center distance (workpiece turning length) reaches 4000mm, we do not recommend customers to configure saddles, which will affect the machining effect of the machine.

Generally, the price of saddle lathe is higher than that of ordinary lathe. If you want to customize saddle for ordinary lathe of the same model, you need to add 350 or 500 dollars. We need to consult our sales representative for the detailed price of lathe. Of course, if the budget is sufficient, we recommend that customers directly purchase large-diameter ordinary lathes. Although the price is higher, the overall machining accuracy of the machine tool will be higher. If the budget is not enough, but it is occasionally necessary to process metal parts such as large-diameter special discs, saddle lathes can be selected.
